2018 Club Season

Updated on 2017-07-13 10:11:37

Congratulations everyone on an outstanding 2017 season!

Canuck Stuff had another great year looking back at the 2017 season. Seven Canuck teams medalled at the Division 1 Provincial Championships winning three Provincial Banners, with three other teams making it to the Provincial Final and bringing home Silver Medals.
Our U14 Boys teams played each other in the Provincial Final to finish 1st and 2nd in the province followed by Canuck Red going on to win another National Championship in Abbotsford. Our U15 Boys Black Team finished Second at Nationals, our two U16 Boys finished 3rd and 5th at Nationals, and our U18 boys also finished 5th in Division 1.

Looking forward into the 2018 season, we see the landscape of club volleyball continue to change as Volleyball Alberta reviews and continues make changes to the selection process. Volleyball Alberta has made the following changes for the 2018 season: U13, U14 and U15 teams are intended to focus on development rather than competing to win (as per the “Long Term Athlete Development” plan). For the 2018 club season these age groups (U13 to U15) are to be selected through the tryout process that begins Nov. 27th and signed to their respective club teams starting December 4th. For the older age groups (U16 to U18) clubs and coaches have the option of offering roster positions to athletes using the VA signing form leading up to the 2018 season, however the process of signing and officially accepting those offers can only happen during the actual signing periods designated by Volleyball Alberta. Those dates are between Sept 1st and Sept. 5th and again between Oct. 20th and Oct. 24th. Any roster spots remaining after Oct. 24th will be filled through tryouts and those athletes will sign on or after the Dec. 4th signing date. Clubs are required to submit the names of any athletes who have signed with their club to Volleyball Alberta and post their rosters on their own websites.

(Coaches and/or clubs are not to request or impose any other form of deadlines for athletes to make decisions.)

At Canuck, we will continue the longstanding tradition of developing athletes and volleyball players and having strong developmental and competitive teams through both the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club and the Junior Canucks Volleyball Club Programs. For the 2018 club season Canuck will run at least one strong “competitive team” in each age category (U14 to U18) for both boys and girls. We will also run additional teams again this year in the U13 to U16 age categories in either the Canuck Stuff or Jr. Canuck Programs. Please see our “Teams and Coaches” Page as we will update it over the summer (starting July 15th) with more specific information on each age group including number of teams, coaches etc.
Athletes interested in developing their skills and playing on a competitive club team can plan to attend the Fall Skills Clinics at the Volleydome, starting in September. Registration for these clinics will open in August. Information regarding tryouts will be posted in October.
